Textual Analysis –
Close reading and interpretation of cultural messages

A wide range of scholars, artists, critics etc. have adopted the concept (e.g. textual analysis applied to literary forms). They would also include film, fashion, art, rap music, architecture, tabloid magazines, graffiti, etc.
Expands seemingly minor elements of a text and offers insight into the broader fabric of culture.

CULTURAL STUDIES ...

Cultural Studies theorists took a more distanced approach from media led analysis and are often interdisciplinary in nature.

Some critics/academics think this approach
diminishes or even diffuses disciplines.
